An opportunity has arisen for a Solicitor experienced in Marine sector work to work as a member of our Marine team in our Truro or St Austell Office.

This is a full time, permanent role working 9am - 5.15pm Monday to Friday.

The Role:

You will be working as a Solicitor within the Marine Team. You will be working with Verity Slater who heads up the team and other colleagues across different legal disciplines. You will need to have a flexible approach and the ability to work within a team environment.

Your work will be varied and may include (depending on your experience and the opportunities available): Marine Regulation; Harbour Revision, Empowerment and Closure Orders; Marine Licensing and Planning including Marine Management Organisation and Environment Agency consents; Collisions and Salvage; Charterparty disputes; Ship Building Contracts and regulation; Marine Security Documentation; Repossession of Ships; Charter and Sponsorship Agreements and disputes; Marine Energy; Fishing industry claims and Fishing law; and/ or Yachting and Marine Leisure Matters.

Are you the right person?

You will have already specialised in undertaking Marine work in some of the areas detailed above and experience and understanding of the marine industry. You will have built some strong relationships with clients in the marine sector in the South West (for example with marine insurers, P&I clubs, ship owners/operators, yacht clubs, local ports and harbours or other marine businesses and be looking to develop your relationship with those clients and like minded businesses further.

You will already be based in Cornwall or will be looking for an opportunity to relocate to this beautiful part of the world (perhaps to follow your own love for the sea) and seeking a firm which will recognise and nurture the specialist area of work you have experience in and which already has a long term commitment to the marine sector.

Our ideal candidate will have 3 - 8 years’ experience but we would look beyond this bracket for the right person to join us. You will have previous experience in a commercially aware firm. You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a passion and focus on exceptional client care. You will be organised and will have an excellent academic record and good numeracy skills. You will also be able to think creatively to tailor cost effective solutions for clients.

The position would suit someone who is accurate, proactive and committed to meeting deadlines while remaining calm under pressure. Excellent all round communication skills, professional telephone manner and attention to detail is essential. Relocation assistance will be considered in exceptional circumstances.
