Environmental Health & Safety Based in Devon Job ref: AZ/37994Salary: GBP30, 000GENERAL SUMMARYReporting to the EHS Leader, the EHS Engineer plays an integral part in ensuring that the company complies with relevant Health, Safety and environmental legislation as it effects the business, whilst promoting a positive Health and Safety culture. Building relationships with different business teams and faculties with the primary objective of ensuring that associates work within a safe working environment.RESPONSIBILITIESTo assist all levels of management in implementing and maintaining the standards required of the health and Safety at work act, all other codes of practice and relevant standards.Carry out risk assessments on assembly equipment new and old ensuring that the safety and wellbeing of associates is not compromised, considering how risks could be reduced.Attend Business Team and PDCA meetings offering advice, seeking best practice solutions and presenting statistical data where appropriate.Completing COSHH Risk assessments using the Sypol tool, presenting them to departmental leaders and suggesting the most appropriate and pragmatic method of complying with the findings. Conduct internal EHS audits in conjunction with departmental representatives, and tracking any remedial work to completion.Utilise safety software package (EHS connect) to analyse Near Miss data, incident rates and identify areas of concern. Identify the need for, and carry out Health and Safety training with all associates, both at the recruitment stage and in-line with ongoing job function requirements.Writing and maintaining safety procedures with regards to manufacturing equipment, chemical handling, workplace transport, manual handling and contractor management.Assist with accident, incident and near miss investigations, offering advice and best practise solutions where appropriate.Keep up to date with new legislation and maintain a working knowledge of all Health, Safety and Environmental legislation as it effects the company, its equipment, processes and legislative obligations. This may include attending meetings ( IOSH, PMG ) reading journals and networking with Safety Professionals both within and external to the company.Report unsafe occurrences and incidents to the HSE, EA, BDX and other notifiable bodies as and when required.Assist with the concept, build, installation and validation of new machinery ensuring that new processes and equipment are introduced into the production environment with hazards identified and mitigated, ensuring the continued safety of associates.As part of the EHS Team, administer and maintain the Environmental Management system in accordance with ISO14001 and applicable regulations.Planning practical and effective methods, both preventative and remedial of promoting Health and safety and safe work practices.Attending Blitz activities, 8 waste events, and safety committees as a representative of the EHS department, offering advice where it is appropriate and clarifying legislative requirements.
